Help for Homeschooling Families

Each semester classes are offered for homeschool students taught by a variety of teachers. These classes meet in the Westminster Presbyterian Church building in Kingsport Tennessee. Please contact the listed class instructor for more information about the classes you are interested in.

2021—Homeschool Classes

Chemistry (Westminster Members Only)

Teacher: Mark Strand

Schedule: Class meets 11:30 am to 1:00 pm on Monday and Wednesday. Class will start after Labor Day.

We will use the Apologia chemistry text 3rd edition.

Influential Ancient Books Discussion Group

Teacher: Steven Warhurst

Schedule: Class meets Wednesday from 9:30 am to 10:45 am.

This class is for 8th grade and above. The reading load is around three hours a week. Younger readers may benefit from following along in the text while listening to the book on audio. This is a great way to stretch a reader. Class time will be spent discussing the books and include quizzes…as needed. Request a syllabus by contacting Steven Warhurst.

Introduction to Logic and Argumentation

Schedule: Class meets Wednesday from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm.

Introduction to the art and science of reasoning: Students will learn to evaluate arguments and create arguments, discerning the truth and exposing the lie. Request a syllabus by contacting Steven Warhurst.

Old Testament: Genesis to Esther

Schedule: Class meets Wednesday from 1:00 pm to 2:15 pm.

This class is for Middle School and above. We will read the Old Testament from Genesis to Esther and learn to tell the story of the Old Covenant. I hope students will gain a basic understanding of the story line from Genesis to Esther and be able to tell that story to others. Request a syllabus by contacting Steven Warhurst.

Algebra I

The Liberty Class

Jesus said that he came to proclaim justice for the gentiles (Matt. 12:18) and liberty for the captives (Luke 4:18). What was the justice and liberty that Christ brought? And, how do we live out those concepts of justice and liberty in our culture?

Art Class with Karen Roddy from Wonderfully Made Studios

Our starting classes are an introduction to seeing and drawing the world in a fresh way. We will learn the classic foundations of hand-eye coordination, proportion, shading, and composition as we build critical and creative thinking skills. Our goal is to appreciate God and His creation as we create graphite art! Suitable for ages 12 to adults.
